Although this small strip of beach in Northern Volusia County is just 9 miles from busy Daytona Beach, the communities are worlds apart. Ormond by the Sea, also called the North Peninsula, remains a haven for those who want beachfront living without traffic jams, transients and commercialization. With a population of approximately 15,000 Ormond by the Sea is bounded on the East by the Atlantic Ocean and on the West by the Halifax River, which is the Intracoastal Waterway; thus making it only a short walk to the beach for swimming or strolling on a traffic free beach to fishing or boating on the river. There are many riverfront parks with fishing docks for residents use along the river.

Practically level, with a minimum of 6 feet above sea level. Lenders do not require flood insurance for homes except for those located along the river waterfront..

Ormond by the Sea probably won't grow much because most of its land has already been developed. There are wide open spaces at the Northern tip of the Peninsula which are owned by the State of Florida and is being preserved for environmental reasons. It is important to preserve sand dunes covered with native palm scrub, sea grass and other vegetation for future generations to enjoy.
